War moose of the Red Army
Between 1934-1937 the Red Army ran a project with the aim of utilising domesticated moose in battle. The moose were ridden and Degtarjev light machine guns were fastened into their horns. The goal was to use them for transport in deep snow and as a mobile firing mount. The moose, however, had trouble getting used to the sound of gunfire and explosions and none were ever used in war. Up to 1500 moose were trained until the project ended.
